Ontario marks Family Literacy Day each year to encourage parents and children to make reading a part of their every-day life.

About 20 women got their dancing shoes on this morning during a Zumba class at Energy Fitness for ladies aged 55 and up. Funded by the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sports and Physical Activity (CAAWS), there is no charge for the class and a membership at the gym is not required. The class was the second of an eight-week session but those interested can join at any time.

Jared Smith, right, of Canadian Tire stopped by the local CIBC branch this morning and had a bit of fun during Customer Appreciation Day there, while branch manager Todd Thompson looked on. Decked out in a “snow days” theme, the new owner of Canadian Tire, Rick Smith, provided items for the winter displays decorating the branch.

Kathy Hare, of Motivate Canada, led Serene Whitecrow on “Giishibatoon” along the snowy riding trail at Running Horse Ranch in Miscampbell on Saturday afternoon. Delegates from as far away as Atikokan will gather at the Devlin Hall to discuss issues that affect communities across the district.
